 ASK THE EXPERT - BUILDER
I understand that the building code (for backyard sheds) is now 5 feet off the fence line. My house is in Kenner, LA. Is this correct ?

I hate to say I don't know but I don't know .It's really not a building code. That question is more area specific and or even neighborhood specific. First read your survey this should show you set backs. (Places that you can not build in.) For example in my neighborhood I have a 50' foot setback from the street and 7' from each of the side property lines. So this means I can not build anything within 50' of the street or within 7' feet of each side of the property lines. Also you must check your homeowners association. Homeowners associations have the rules for the neighborhoods themselves and each one has different rules. Please keep in my mind you mentioned a fence line. A fence line is not necessarily a property line. You must go by property lines.

Thanks, The Expert
